Sheila's Wheels Launch Sheila's Heels

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

Sheila's HeelsLeading car insurers Sheila’s Wheels well known for targeting their products at women have now launched Sheila’s Heels, a ladies driving shoe. The shoes are black with a pink stripe at the back and they go from heels to flats at the push of a button. I think it’s a genius idea; I take off my heels when I’m driving and it’s a nuisance taking them on and off all the time. Also sometimes my feet end up dirtier if I’m not wearing tights.

Not only is it the ultimate driving shoe, it’s stylish too – I’d definitely get a pair. No news on how much the shoes are going to cost yet, leave a comment if you find out before us.

Festival Camping in Pink

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

Pink Festival TentIf you’re off to a festival this season and you like to stand out from a crowd then why not get one of these bright pink tents to take with you. I found the tents over at onestopfestival.com and thought they were a great idea; they have 2-man, 3-man and 4-man tents at very reasonable prices.

This pink 3-man tent is just £34.95 and the pink and orange 4-man is just £49.95, other colours are available on the website if pink is a little too extreme for you!

Also… check out their festival kits, they have some really fab ideas.

A Weekend of Glamour at The Dorchester

Friday, March 30th, 2007

junior_suite.jpg
In my opinion the nicest rooms at the Dorchester hotel on Park Lane are not the exclusive signature suites but the lowly junior suites. Not huge but these rooms are nicely laid out and have spacious bedroom and lounge areas. The furniture is true art deco style not the modern reproductions found in many “art deco” hotels and the rooms are very girly with pale pink curtains and upholstery and sexy black and gold glossy wood. The marble bathrooms are pure glamour – getting ready for a night out in the city here makes you feel really special.

Take advantage of the Dorchester’s special weekend rate on suites – a room like this would cost £659 per night on weekdays but is only £450 per night on weekends. This special weekend rate includes champagne and a full English breakfast. If you are booking this room for a gift for someone why not treat them to an afternoon tea gift voucher, to complete the perfect gift. Booking can be made directly via the Dochester Hotel website.

Alton Towers Adrenalin Week

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

Alton Towers LogoThe first Alton Towers Adrenalin Week will run from Monday 19th March to Friday 23rd March and apparently you are guaranteed to get on the four most popular rides three times. That means three goes on Air, Rita, Oblivion or Nemesis if you can fit that many in. Personally I think I’d be feeling a bit ill after all that time being hurled in the air but I’m sure there’s many of you who will love it.

Last Minute currently have a great offer on tickets, £20 for adults reduced from £32 normal entrance fee and £16 for children (usually £22). If you haven’t been to Alton Towers before then this is a great chance to see what all the fuss is about.

Woodlands Park Hotel in Cobham

Friday, February 16th, 2007

Woodlands Park HotelOn the evening of Valentines Day I was lucky enough to be treated to a mini break at the Woodlands Park Hotel in Cobham, Surrey. The hotel is owned by the Hand Picked chain and I must say it was absolutely beautiful. Last year we visited Rhinefield House in the New Forest from the same chain and I enjoyed my stay at both hotels.

The outside and the community areas are extremely traditional with old paintings on the walls and vintage wall paper and furnishings. The bedrooms however have been fully refurbished and are very modern and very luxurious. You have the choice of a deluxe room, an executive room, a family room, a master suite or a junior suite, all of which are lovely.

We opted for the Valentine’s Day package which consisted of an executive room, a five course evening meal, breakfast and champagne and chocolates on arrival. Many couples had taken advantage of the same offer and boys if you’re reading this – it is definitely something you could consider for next Valentine’s Day. I felt totally spoilt!

Take a look at the Hand Picked website for more information about Woodlands Park and the other Hand Picked Hotels.

British Airways Introduce Luggage Charges

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

British Airways LogoAs I watched the BBC news this morning, a report on new rules enforced by British Airways (BA) caught my attention. As of next week, passengers checking in more than one piece of luggage will be charged for the additional bags. UK Domestic customers will be charged £30 per extra bag, customers travelling short haul will have to pay £60 and customers travelling long haul will have to pay £120. Travellers to the US, Caribbean, Brazil, Mexico, Canada and Nigeria are exempt from the new rules and will be allowed two bags per person.

If the fees apply to you then obviously it is best to limit your luggage to one bag before you get to the airport. The maximum weight for economy class is 23 kg. If you feel this is simply impossible then you can apply for discounts online which will cut the cost by approximately 30%, this is available until September but it is unclear how to do this on their website.

Read more about BA baggage information at their website.

Own A Piece Of Paradise

Saturday, January 20th, 2007

Own A Piece Of ParadiseWinter always makes me want to hide away in bed and not face the outside, and with the forecast predicting even colder weather on its way next week I can help wishing for some hot sunshine. While browsing the internet for some holidays I came across this gift of owning your very own piece of paradise. I knew you could name a star or become a lady/lord, but I didn’t realise you could actually own a part of an island.

When you purchase the gift you will be confirmed as the beneficial owner of one square foot of land on Little Exuma (one of the islands that make up the Bahamas). Ok so what can you really do with one square foot of land, but it would make a good Valentines Day pressie if you’re all out of ideas. Plus you could tell people you have your own place in the Caribbean! The gift pack costs £29.99.

Skiing offers in Les Gets

Monday, January 15th, 2007

Ferme Du Lavay Les GetsI have just got back from the beautiful French town of Les Gets where I spent the week with 10 friends in a fully catered chalet. At £430 per person we felt we got a great deal considering this included flight, accommodation, transfers, breakfast, afternoon cake, four course evening meal, unlimited wine and transfers to and from the main chair lift every day. We had an absolutely fantastic time however unfortunately there wasn’t an awful lot of snow in Les Gets at the time so we traveled to Avoriaz on a couple of days to make the most of some skiing and boarding.

I have just looked at Total Ski’s website (who we booked with) and the price of the chalet Ferme Du Lavay is now just £285 per person if you go the week commencing Sunday 21st January. If you are looking for a last minute break away this could be perfect for you. Check out Total’s Website for more information about the chalet and others on last minute offers.

Want to know what your friends are up to?

Monday, November 20th, 2006

Spy on your friends! The ability to track your friends via their phones is a concept that scares me quite a bit! Loopt are calling this ‘Social Mapping’ – basically, you can access a map with your friends represented as dots on up to 25 miles away, in real time. On one hand this is a fantastic idea – you can only see individuals that you’ve exchanged numbers with and there is an opt-out option should you not want to be tracked. So if you see a friend is close you could arrange to meet, it will save lots of pennies on the ‘where r u?’ texts if nothing else!

On the other hand, I can imagine this creating a world where everyone always knows where you are – I like having time to myself and I’m sure I’m not the only one who tells a few fibs now and then to get out of plans I don’t want to join in on. So there is the opt-out option but then your friends will probably know you don’t want to be spotted! And what is this going to do to the suspicious-minded individuals who will always be watching where their other half is – this brings a whole new meaning to keeping an eye on someone!

Only time will tell whether this concept is embraced (although I can imagine it becoming extremely popular) but I can’t help feeling more and more trapped – I like people not knowing my every move! But then again, it could be fun … I remain undecided!

Folding Travel Hanger and Lint Brush

Monday, November 6th, 2006

Travel Hanger and Lint BrushThis folding travel hanger and lint brush may not be the most exciting post but it’s definitely a great idea – the simple ones are always the best! When folded, the lint brush removes dust, pet hair, fluff etc, and once opened up the lint brush becomes a full-size hanger!

The size makes it perfect to take on your travels – or just keep in your glove box for when it’s needed. For only $5.99 I think this is a very handy item to have (and it would make a practical, if a little boring, stocking filler!)
