So Valentines Day is approaching fast – the day dreaded by single girls everywhere! Watching all those smug couples planning their romantic evenings out makes those without someone feel more like Bridget Jones than ever.
So for those of you planning a night in alone why not have your own fun with a virtual boyfriend? At least there’s none of the hassle of a real relationship, and you have a choice of eight men! The V-boy game is the latest Tamagotchi style craze and allows you to practice your relationship skills – the happier the virtual boyfriend is the more points you collect and the longer the relationship lasts.
It’s pretty easy to upset these virtual boyfriends though as each has their own personality. Different things will annoy different men and things about them will probably annoy you – sounds a lot like real life to me! The game does contain language of an adult nature so if you’re buying it as a gift be careful who you give it to! For £19.99 this will at least entertain you and may even remind you that the grass isn’t always greener …!
After piling on the pounds over Christmas, I decided to get myself a decent pair of scales so I could keep on top of my weight. As I stepped on the scales yesterday morning I thought to myself ‘why do I weight 2 lbs less than I did last night?’. I had not been to the toilet or done anything apart from lay in bed. This baffled me so I decided to look it up on the Internet.
I came across a handy explanation on a website this morning that answered my question very well. It says that when your body changes food into energy, water vapour and carbon dioxide are released into the blood stream that can then leave the body through your lungs by breathing. Water is also lost through the skin then evaporates into the air. The total amount of water lost in this way is usually 2-3 lbs. For a more detailed description visit www.madsci.org.
If any of you know any other reasons or you have your own myth about why this could happen I’d love to know.
We’re three days into the New Year and I wonder how many people are already feeling miserable about failing their New Years Resolutions? The main reason seems to be that we all try to change too much and don’t stick to realistic goals. I love the new ‘Change One Thing’ scheme that Boots are currently promoting.
I’ve had a quick look on the website and there are loads of useful tips, quizzes and advice on how to choose one thing at a time to improve your life, whether it’s quitting smoking, losing weight, feeling healthier and happier or looking great.
You can also register and make a pledge online, which gives you access to motivational emails and texts etc. So now there are no excuses not to stick to those resolutions this year!
If you caught the series of Trinny & Susannah Undress recently then this is the book for you this chrimbo. The girls have spent their lives learning how to make others look and feel good about themselves by wearing the right clothes. Now they’ve put everything they’ve learnt into this new survival guide book – there are loads of great tips, advice and useful day-to–day information.
It’s amazing how what you wear can determine how you feel about yourself, so read up on how to improve your wardrobe and start the New Year as you mean to go on!
Are you confused about the new smoking legislation or are you a non-smoker desperate to find out when the new law will come into effect in your area? Visit www.nosmokinglaw.co.uk – a new smoking law resource website. They have information and advice for people in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland as each country is different. They have useful info for businesses to help owners comply with the rules of the smoking ban.
Also they are currently offering the chance to win a free iPod just by signing up to their website.
I saw these and just thought they were really cute for stocking fillers this year. The cherry-fragranced bath fizzers have shea butter inside to make your skin smooth and silky for Santa.
They come in a cute heart shaped box – just make sure they’re not mistaken as chocolates as that’s what they look like to me! Available for £7 from ASOS.
The ability to track your friends via their phones is a concept that scares me quite a bit! Loopt are calling this ‘Social Mapping’ – basically, you can access a map with your friends represented as dots on up to 25 miles away, in real time. On one hand this is a fantastic idea – you can only see individuals that you’ve exchanged numbers with and there is an opt-out option should you not want to be tracked. So if you see a friend is close you could arrange to meet, it will save lots of pennies on the ‘where r u?’ texts if nothing else!
On the other hand, I can imagine this creating a world where everyone always knows where you are – I like having time to myself and I’m sure I’m not the only one who tells a few fibs now and then to get out of plans I don’t want to join in on. So there is the opt-out option but then your friends will probably know you don’t want to be spotted! And what is this going to do to the suspicious-minded individuals who will always be watching where their other half is – this brings a whole new meaning to keeping an eye on someone!
Only time will tell whether this concept is embraced (although I can imagine it becoming extremely popular) but I can’t help feeling more and more trapped – I like people not knowing my every move! But then again, it could be fun … I remain undecided!
I came across this video and couldnt resist sharing it with you all! I think Burger’s going to have to do something pretty drastic if he wants a new home!
The more I watch this the more I feel sorry for Burger … am I the only one? It’s the little meows at the end …
This hen night camera is fab – when the photos are printed there’s a funky hen night themed border around the edge of each! These photos won’t end up with the stacks of other photos you simply forget about, they’ll be completely unique and your memories will be beautifully framed.
Make sure you use the camera to just capture the best shots as there are only 12 photos available – then simply take to any photo finisher for processing! I think this idea is great and why aren’t there more cameras with special frames, e.g. birthdays or Christmas? Perhaps there are and I just haven’t come across them yet?
I know this gift is a tad corny but I personally love stuff like this. As the name ‘Box of Questions’ may give away, this is a box of questions, which includes your most memorable kiss, your most disastrous hair day and other soppy things girlies love to chat about with their close friends (although all my close friends already know most things about me!)
I’d say this is a perfect item to take round to a proper girly night of soppy films, chocolate and wine – I’m not sure how deep the questions dig but with more and more wine you could always make up your own Plus a portion of the proceeds goes to Women’s Cancer Research Fund so this gift is definitely worth buying
