Motorola KRZR K1 and K1m

Wednesday, February 7th, 2007

Motorola KRZR K1Motorola came into a new light when they released their RAZR mobile technology; they where thinner, sleeker and much more stylish than any other Motorola models. Now they have introduced the KRZR K1 and the KRZR K1m to continue the popular style of the RAZR. The phones are slightly narrower than the RAZR at only 42mm wide and weigh only 3.6 ounces.

The K1 consists of a 2-megapixel camera with 8x digital zoom and the K1m has a 1.3-megapixel camera, they feature a full built in media suite and super slim technology. It doesn’t really matter how great the phones function or how advanced they are, many people will buy these models purely based on their stylish designs.

Apple iPhone – A Closer Look

Saturday, January 20th, 2007

A few days ago we wrote a post on the new iPhone – if you want to see a video of it in action click on the clip below … it totally sold it to me! I’m not usually overly impressed with gadgets but this is going to be huge. I love how much detail has gone into the design, everything has been thought through in so much depth, from visual voicemail (to save you having to listen to each in turn) to zooming into photos using your fingers – I now think the price (between $499 and $599) is pretty reasonable!

Apple iPhone unveiled

Monday, January 15th, 2007

Apple iPhoneAfter the success of products such as the iPod, iTunes and the Mac, US giant Apple are set to revolutionise the telecoms industry with their new iPhone. The phone combines three key products; a mobile phone, an iPod with multi-touch display and an Internet communications device. The iPhone means no more cluttered pockets or huge handbags to carry all your necessary technology – simply slip your iPhone into that cute little clutch bag you’ve been dying to take out and combine all your software into one small lightweight gadget.

You will be able to download music and videos, use high quality email, browse the web, use maps and search on Google all from one screen. The phone also offers a full touch keyboard for texting and emailing and has a 2-megapixel integrated camera.

The iPhone will be launched in the US in June 2007 and will come over to Europe later in the year. At between $499 and $599 the gadget doesn’t come cheap but if you can cut out the price of all your other gadgets it could be well worth it.

Cath Kidston range from Nokia

Wednesday, January 3rd, 2007

Cath Kidson Mobile PhoneDesigner Cath Kidson is best known for her vintage prints used widely in home décor and she was recently voted designer of the year by Gratzia. Last year she teamed up with Nokia to create some really great designs for their 6111 and 6320i ranges adding a girly touch to each one of her prints. Like her design work the floral fascias are vintage inspired and she has chosen Bird, Pop Flowers and Star prints for the phones.

Get your hands on one of these designs at the Carephone Warehouse. The limited edition phones have only been out since December so get in quick. The designs are available on 02, Virgin Mobile, Orange, Vodaphone and T Mobile on both pay as you go and pay monthly. It’s about time mobile phones were given that little extra touch to make them more personal and I’m sure this will be just the beginning of printed fascias.

Sony Ericsson K750i O2 Mobile only £95

Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

Sony Ericsson K750iThe new Sony Ericsson K750i can now be bought for just £95 through O2, Orange or Vodaphone at The mobile phone originally cost £169.99 but has been reduced dramatically just before the Christmas period. The phone consists of a 2.0-megapixel camera with 4x zoom, autofocus and photo light. I have the K800i which isn’t as good as the K750i but it’s still an excellent mobile phone and I find it really easy to use.

The mobile comes with image management software for your PC allowing you to keep up to date with your photographs and arrange them into albums, an advanced digital music player and an integrated FM radio, 38Mb built in memory plus a 64Mb memory stick is included, Bluetooth and all the standard features you expect from a mobile phone.

With high quality photographs and videos, an integrated media player, GPRS and all the messaging and Internet connectivity you can imagine, the K750i is the perfect gadget to keep in your pocket.

3 launch X-Series (flat rate mobile broadband)

Thursday, November 16th, 2006

Today Hutchison Whampoa’s 3 announced a new mobile broadband service called 3 X-Series. Most mobile operators, including 3, have offered mobile internet services (charged as data rather than voice) for years now, so is this really anything new?

Well, just maybe.

3’s new X-Series tariff will offer unlimited “mobile broadband” internet access for a flat rate fee, which is much closer to the way broadband is sold to fixed line customers over the traditional copper phone lines. This will allow users to run programs such as skype, which allows free phone calls to anyone else who uses it, wherever they are in the world.

How successful X-series will be, will largely depend on what 3 charge for the service. Unlimited data packages from other operators are typically £75 a month, so if 3 come in at nearer £30 I think it could be very popular.

I’ve long argued that mobile operators who rely too heavily on voice revenues (*cough* *cough* vodafone), and who fail to diversify quickly enough could be as voice-over-ip pushes down the cost of calling to zero. So, this looks like a rather bold move by 3, who are repositioning themselves towards providing internet access instead of mobile phone calls.

If the price is right, then I could even see 3 taking a share of the home broadband market. More and more people are eschewing their landline in favour of using their mobiles to make calls while at home so why not use a mobile to provide their internet connection as well?
