The double vocals of Max ‘Velvet Hands’ Arnold and Ryan ‘Piss Whiskey’ Griffiths complement each other perfectly, and their ridiculously catchy riffs will be in your head for the foreseeable future after one listen. Life Without Balloons is cheerful, unpretentious, solid music that has a comforting familiarity about it. They’re not trying to break boundaries, change politics with their lyrics or invent new sounds, but this record is like a cup of tea – dependable, perfect for lifting spirits, and quite good at fixing problems.

You can get a copy from Amazon for £7.98.

It might not be an official holiday here in England, but for many today is a time for celebration – as it is St. Patrick’s Day. For those keen to acknowledge the best-loved Patron Saint of Ireland, traditions include wearing green and getting plenty of Guinness down you (as if you need an excuse!) Of course, these customs vary all over the world, with some countries enjoying street parades while others keep it more socially conscientious with Charity events.

Many events have already honoured the day here in England, with London hosting a parade and a festival yesterday. However, for those of you still keen to get involved in some Irish fun tonight, The Dublin City Working Man’s Band will be performing at the Irish Cultural Centre in Hammersmith while the Annual Met Police Concert will also be in full swing at the Barbican Centre. For more information on these London-based events and all things St. Patrick’s, head on over to the website.

The day has been marked since 1908, with this year’s slogan “campaigning for change… for 100 years” perfectly depicting the long journey that we have been on.

IWD has grown and developed with the support of governments, universities, organisations and media groups and for those of you interested in getting involved, there are numerous events marking the occasion across the UK. So for your local celebration of womanhood, head on over to the official site for further details. And if you do make it to one, please do contact us here at The New Pink – we’d love to hear your stories.

We don’t often write about computer games on this blog which is a bit of a shame because there as so many great games about at the moment. I’ve recently had some more time and some more hard drive space so I’m back into gaming again… but I still think the best computer games are ones that you can play with your friends and obviously console games are the best for this.

At our house we have been particularly enjoying playing Wii Play for the Nintentdo Wii. This is quite a basic game but its simplicity makes it great for playing with a large group of friends. There are 9 games in the package and they are all really easy to pick up. You can design your own character, a Mii, and pick yourself and your friends out in a crowd in a “wheres wally” style observation game. There is Wii billards and air hockey which are so much more fun to play using the wii controllers that the usual wired controllers.

There are also some quirky games such as fishing and “Charge!” a crazy cow racing game! The only snag with this game is that you can only play with two players at a time so you will have to take turns but the games are really short so you shouldn’t be waiting for two long. Plus watching others is as fun as playing yourself. To find out more visit the offical Wii Website.

Apparently £400,000 was spent on the deisign but since it was released it has had nothing but criticism. Today I came across a website that is inviting users to submit their own designs with the question – can you do better?

Already they have had some really great ideas submitted, in my opinion they are far better than the official logo and obviously didn’t take as long to create. If you think you can do better than this then send in your design to the London 2012, can you do better? website.

Also ladies check out their Ten Alternative Uses for Hairspray, it’s a pretty useful article!
These ingenious molds create an imprint of the Virgin Mary on your toast. Just press the plastic mold onto your toast, put your toast in the toaster and serve to a friend and see their reaction as they think they have been divinely blessed!
