Glorious Gloves!

Friday, November 14th, 2008

ASOS GlovesWe’ve done scarves, we’ve done hats, and today I’m rounding the week off with gloves. Whilst some may say they’re the least exciting winter accessory, they’re definitely the most essential, and believe it or not there’s quite a few options – mittens, fingerless, long sleeved… So here’s my hand-picked selection.

On the left are Long Arm Warmers. They’ve got a thumbhole, but apart from that they’re fingerless, but good for keeping your arms extra warm, especially if you want to wear short sleeves. They cost £8 and are available in black, grey and cream. Next up are some old fashioned Hand Knit Mittens. They can be a bit impractical, especially when it comes to using your phone, but they’re ultra cute and will keep your hands nice and toasty. The design on these Hand Knit Mittens has a hand made feel, and they cost £10. Last but not least, if you can decide if you want mittens or gloves, never fear, because you can have both! These Striped Converter Gloves means you can have fingerless gloves, and then just pull down the top for mittens. And they’re a bargain at £8.

You can have a look at all these hand warmers over at ASOS now.

Scarf Searching

Friday, November 7th, 2008

ASOS ScarvesWe’ve done hats, and now it’s time to search for the perfect winter scarf. Scarves are increasingly being seen all year round – from the tassled checkered scarves we’ve seen all summer, to the silk head scarves being sent down the catwalk for A/W08, to the versatile staple that is the pashmina.

For winter though, I think only a knitted scarf will do for maximum warmth and cuteness. This Maniyak Pure Wool Chunky Hand Spun Scarf, £20, has that great hand made look to it, because it is! The pure wool will keep you nice a warm, and the contrasting colours of blue and white means it’ll go with any outfit.

Or if you want to add a touch of this season’s check trend, try this ASOS Oversized Check Blanket Scarf. It’s available in purple of pink, and the extra width means you can wear it however you fancy. If you’re allergic to wool, this is a good choice as it’s 100% acrylic but has the look of wool.

These and a whole host of other scarves are available at ASOS now.

Hat Hunting

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

ASOS HatsWith the clocks going back at the weekend and the temperature dropping to single figures today, it’s without a doubt time to pull out the full winter gear – hats, scarves, gloves/mittens, earmuffs, thermal underwear…

Personally my winter wardrobe starts with a good hat, and ASOS have a great selection this year. If you’re a cutting edge indie scenester then this Checked Trapper Hat (£15,right) – the hat of choice of Dev Hynes of Lightspeed Champion -will ensure that your head is the best dressed around. If it’s a bit windy there’s even the option of fastening it under your chin for maximum heat retention!

If you prefer something a bit more traditional, then how about the ultimate bobble hat? The Pom Pom Hand Knit Beanie (£10) has that slouchy, handmade look about it and the pom pom on top is supercute. It’s available in black or red.

To get my pick of the bunch, or see what else is available, head over to ASOS now.

Winter PJs!

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

winter-pjs.jpgThere aren’t many benefits to winter, but one of them has to be getting to wear some lovely warm pyjamas. Marks and Spencer definitely lead the way on this, they’ve got a pair everyone, and ever budget. These Per Una Berry Tartan Pyjamas, costing £29.50 are definitely the quintessential pair. Long sleeves, long legs, and even better, they’re on trend with a tartan print! They’re 100% cotton, so they’ll keep you warm, but not too warm, and won’t aggravate your skin.

If you’re looking for the ultimate in night time comfort, then have a look at the Autograph range. You can find pure silk pyjamas, or bottoms made from modal which is apparently like cotton but resistant to shrinking, fading and super-soft. Naturally though there’s a premium to pay for this range.

So embrace winter and hunt out your perfect pjs!

Summer Sales at Topshop

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

Topshop SaleWhilst we might finally be experiencing a taste of summer this week, it’s inevitably going to come to a soggy end this weekend, and the shorts will be packed away again for who knows how long.

As a result of the definite lack of hot weather this year, most of us stuck in lovely old Blighty will have been reaching for a jumper rather than a halter neck recently. But every cloud, no matter how grey, has a silver lining, and this year’s summer sales are some of the best we’ve had in years, full of top notch summer clothes that we just didn’t want to buy, now available with massive reductions.

If you’re jetting off for some summer sun, or just plain optimistic, get rifling because there are bargains to be had. Topshop in particular have huge reductions across all ranges, including Kate Moss and the vintage ranges available in the flagship store on Oxford Street. I recently spotted a Christopher Kane dress reduced from £120 to £20.

Tone Up on the Beach with FitFlops

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

FitFlopsGoing to the gym, using weights… boring, get yourself a pair of FitFlops instead and walk your muscles to toned perfection! FitFlops are a genius invention that allow you to work out while you walk, plus they look fab too. The shoes have a special mid-sole that activates and stimulates muscles by challenging your support and balance helping to tone up your legs and bum.

I don’t know about you but I always feel really sluggish on holiday because I eat and drink more than usual and lay on the sunbed for most of the day. I take my gym stuff with me but sadly never quite make it to the hotel fitness room! Now I’m not even going to bother taking my trainers and support bra with me – I’ll tone up by walking on the beach or from club to club!!

FlipFlops are available in a number of styles for both men and women, the ones pictured are my personal favourite and they cost about £36 depending on where you shop. Check out the official FlipFlop Website for all the styles and stockists.

Monday, April 28th, 2008

H & M launch Marimekko influenced range

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

H & M Marimekko rangeHigh street chain H & M is clearly determined to get everyone wearing bright colours for summer with the launch of their range titled A Tribute to Marimekko. For the uninitiated, Marimekko is a Finnish company established back in the 1950s that really set the fashion trends of the 1960s and 1970s with high profile women such as Jackie Kennedy wearing their trademark rainbow colours and bold prints. Now, H & M are doffing their cap to the style of Marimekko with a collection for both men and women that celebrates the quirky, offbeat style in a whole host of items.

True to tradition, the range is full of clashing vivid colours and graphic prints, and is available in toned down, everyday items such as blouses (£9.99 – pictured) to more unusual pieces such as a retro swimsuit (£19.99) or tight, cropped trousers (£29.99). The Marimekko style might not be for everyone, but it’s great to see H & M once again taking risks and leading the way.

Check out the online store for further information on the Marimekko range for men and women.

Little Black Dress exhibition coming soon

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

LBDIt’s a wardrobe staple, suitable for so many ocassions and yet it never goes out of style. What are we talking about? The little black dress (or LBD to those in the know), of course. It can be dressed up, dressed down and now the fashion item that we all have and love is getting a little public acclaim. Yes, the Fashion and Textile Museum in London is exhibiting a collection of LBDs and is openly asking for women to donate a photograph of theirs to the cause.

The exhibition, unsurprisingly called Little Black Dress, will be held from the 19th of June to the 25th of August and will not only feature pictures from the general public but top designer LBDs. A museum spokeswoman explained: “We want to know about your favourite dress. Be it cocktail or classic, sexy or chic, let us take a look.” The museum is particularly interested in any juicy stories associated with the dress, so if you feel like sharing a pic of your No. 1 frock with London email Dennis Nothdruft at info@ftmlondon.org or call 020 7407 8664 by 30th of April.

For further information, visit the museum’s website and if your LBD makes the cut – do let us know.

Over the knee socks

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

over the knee socksManhattan rich kids Serena and Blair from ITV2’s new teen drama Gossip Girl can afford absolutely anything and are often decked out in the most fabulously expensive designer gear, but that hasn’t stopped the pair of feuding females from becoming style icons. Their Upper East Side look might seem a world away from life here in the UK, but one of their fashion favourites, over the knee socks, are proving popular on this side of the Atlantic with followers of the hit show.

There are various ways to work the look and they can be made a feature of or toned down as part of an ensemble. Website Madame Fantasy stocks a black version for £4.99; figleaves.com has them in a ribbing style (available in black, charcoal or light grey) for £8 and Tights Please sells them with an argyle pattern for £6.99 (pictured).

So whether you’re a loaded New York high school student or not, knee high socks are the new way to spice up your pins.

ZPM’s bobble clasp purse

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

ZPM purseZPM’s website claims that the company’s philosophy is “to make products that are practical, stylish and absolutely built to last”, and taking a look at the wide range of items they offer The New Pink is impressed. The company has been enjoying a fair bit of press of late and they seem to marking out a niche for themselves as the most quirky label in bags of all types.

Their range is vast, encompassing everything from laundry bags to travel bags, from make-up bags to jewellery rolls and each one is highly detailed, pretty and stylish. We love this large fifties tea bobble clasp purse selling for £65 which features inner compartments to keep your mobile phone safe, a waterproof one for your make-up and even a matching make-up mirror.

To snatch up this bag or one of the many other beautiful ones from ZPM visit the site here.
