Celebrity documentary series Exposed tomorrow on Living

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Charlotte Church autobiographyFor those of us hooked on the shenanigans of showbiz folks, Living brings us a new series that looks beyond the celebrity gloss into the lives of our favourite famous faces. Adding a novel dimension to the conventional ‘through the keyhole’ format, Exposed takes its cue from a well-known and defining image of the featured star and questions how accurate that is. Each week a new celebrity will be featured with the inside gossip coming courtesy of those that have worked with, written about, photographed and studied the star in question.

Names slated to appear include actors such as Tom Cruise, Jude Law, Julia Roberts and Angelina Jolie, supermodel Kate Moss, pop star Britney Spears and those famous for being famous such as Paris Hilton and the all-conquering Victoria Beckham. The series starts tomorrow night (8pm) with a look at Welsh darling Charlotte Church and will surely look at her early rise to fame, high-profile romance with rugby star Gavin Henson and new journey into motherhood.

To learn about the private life of Miss Church away from the headlines, catch Exposed: Charlotte Church tomorrow night or pick up her autobiography Keep Smiling from play.com.

Katherine Heigl denies she’s the new Julia Roberts

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

27 Dresses posterHer new rom-com ‘27 Dresses’ is currently riding high atop the UK box office, but star Katherine Heigl is down-playing her success. Critics have compared the ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ actress to Oscar-winner Julia Roberts, but Heigl believes such comparisons are far from fair to Roberts. “I can’t help but feel that’s (the comparison) is a little insulting to Julia Roberts,” argues the ‘Knocked Up’ star. “There’s not another woman who I look at and think, ‘That’s it, that’s whose career I want to have.’ “I’m just me and trying to do the best I can in every decision in any given moment”.

Heigl’s transition from the small to the silver screen has had many people wondering whether she will leave the hit medical drama where she plays Dr. Isobel Stevens. “When I come back to Grey’s, I am actually really excited. After nine months a year for four years, of course you’re going to think, ‘I want to be someone else for a while.’ I landed really good things and I did them in my breaks. It broke up the monotony of the character and I’m very, very grateful for opportunities. But Grey’s is such a good cast. Everybody is amazing”. Season three of Grey’s is showing on Five (Thursdays, 10pm) or click here for the ‘27 Dresses’ trailer.

Nicole Richie to design maternity range

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

The simple lifeYou might think that with a newborn daughter and a confirmed jewellery line, Nicole Richie might have enough on her plate. Wrong! The socialite and former star of reality show ‘The Simple Life’ is now planning on designing a range of maternity wear as inspired by Balenciaga, the label that kept her looking stylish during her pregnancy.

“I wore so much Balenciaga during my pregnancy that he was one of my main inspirations,” she gushed enthusiastically to Women’s Wear Daily. “My line will be about making women look and feel good at a really emotional time. It’s about showing your best self, not your tired, worn-down self. Guys don’t go through that, they just don’t understand.” To see why Nicole loves Balenciago (Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Connolly models for them fact fans!) and their designer Nicolas Ghesquière, visit the official site here or improve your Nicole Richie knowledge with season 5 of ‘The Simple Life’ at Amazon.co.uk.

Coleen McLoughlin voted Britain’s top style icon

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Coleen McLoughlinColeen McLoughlin has been voted the nation’s most fashionable style icon. The fiancé of Manchester United and England star Wayne Rooney topped the poll conducted by Look magazine, beating celebrated fashionistas supermodel Kate Moss and actress Sienna Miller to the crown. Coleen’s fellow WAGs Victoria Beckham and Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Cole filled out the top five in the survey which quizzed 1,200 women aged between fifteen and forty-five.

Look’s editor Ali Hall commented on Coleen’s success: “Coleen has transformed herself from Puffa-jacket schoolgirl to style icon in just a few years. Women relate to her as she’s more shapely than your average Wag. She doesn’t mind splashing out on a designer ‘it’ item but mixes it with the great stuff available on the high street. She’s not afraid to try out the latest trends but will hold her hands up and admit she gets it wrong sometimes.” To learn more about Coleen, her autobiography ‘Welcome to My World’ is available at Amazon, while her TV programme ‘Coleen’s Real Women’ is being shown on ITV2.

Drew Barrymore launches ‘Fill the Cup’ charity campaign

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

Fill the Cup LogoDrew Barrymore appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show yesterday and used her public appearance to discuss her charity work. The rom-com queen is donating $1 million to the World Food Programme (WFP), with her contribution planned to help feed school children in Kenya. This generous gift launches the WFP’s ‘Fill the Cup’ campaign which looks to feed the 59 million hungry children around the world.

Drew is an ambassador for the good cause and after her trips to Kenya knows how much good can be achieved: “I have seen with my own eyes what a difference a simple cup of nutritious porridge can make in a child’s life,” Barrymore told Oprah. “It helps them learn, stay healthy and sets them on track for a bright future. I urge everyone, everywhere, to help WFP ‘Fill the Cup’ for hungry children, and make hunger history.”

The winners from last night’s NME awards

Friday, February 29th, 2008

NME LogoLast night rock music came to town with the NME awards in London. Interestingly, awards magnet Amy Winehouse did win, but perhaps not in a category she had hoped to score in – the Worst Dressed star of the year. The bee-hived singer was beaten to the Best Solo Artist award by Kate Nash, while Mercury Music winner’s the Klaxons picked up the Best Album gong for Myths of the Near Future. The big winners on the night were those Sheffield scruffs the Arctic Monkeys taking home both Best British Band and Best Track for Fluorescent Adolescent.

Las Vegas band The Killers were awarded the Best International Group honour, while newcomers The Enemy were hailed as the Best New Band. The Godlike Genius award went to Welsh rockers The Manic Street Preachers but there were plenty more prizes served up on the night. Click over to the NME website to catch up with all the winners in full.

Madonna’s new album called ‘Hard Candy’

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

Madonna AlbumShe’s back! Pop superstar Madonna has confirmed the title of her album will be Hard Candy. The album is due out in the States in late April (hows about a UK date?), with the first single to be released a duet with Justin Timberlake called Four Minutes. The trouser snake will feature on a number of the album’s tracks with current flavour of the month Timbaland, accompanied by Pharrell Williams and Nate “Danja” Hills, providing producer duties.

So why the sugary title? Madonna’s rep Liz Rosenberg explains: “It’s about the juxtaposition of tough and sweetness, or as Madonna so eloquently expressed ‘I’m gonna kick your ass, but it’s going to make you feel good.’” The Material Girl is said to “love candy”, with her tribute to her own sweet tooth continuing with another track called Candy Store. The Oscar winners

Monday, February 25th, 2008

OscarsFor some, the Oscars is just industry back-slapping dragged out for hours, but here at The New Pink we love the fashion, the drama and the spectacle of Hollywood’s most glamourous night. The Coen brothers stole the show picking up Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay for their western No Country for Old Men, while the film’s scary star Javier Bardem walked off with the Best Supporting Actor gong.

Elsewhere hot favourite Daniel Day-Lewis followed up his BAFTA win with the Oscar for Best Male for There Will Be Blood. Bio-pics are always popular with Academy voters and suitably French actress Marion Cotillard beat Brit Julie Christie to win Best Female for her depiction of Edith Piaf. Tilda Swinton flew the flag though, picking up a Best Supporting Actress award for her performance in legal drama Michael Clayton. Disney-Pixar scooped the animated prize for Ratatouille, while The Bourne Ultimatum took home three technical awards.

Orange Rules

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

Orange ShoeIt appears the shade to be seen in at the moment is bright citrus orange and of course it’s the celebs that started the trend and have bought it to the high street - after all not much chance of them escaping paps in such a vibrant and bold colour.

As you can imagine, orange is by no means an easy colour to wear and pull off. I think the key here is to use the colour as a highlighting accessory in the form of a belt, bag or shoes. If you are brave enough to bear all and go for an orange frock then keep accessories to a minimum.

Whatever you do, do not wear this shade near any form heavily fake tanned skin - if you didn’t look like you had been tangoed before, you certainly will if this colour goes anywhere near you.

When searching the high street to see what orange goodies they had to offer, I came across these great shoes from www.brantano.co.uk. They are cheap as well at just £ 12.00 - perfect way to start my orange collection.

Amy Winehouse - Do blondes have more fun??

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

It would appear Amy Winehouses signature dark beehive locks are no more! She has been snapped sporting a rather drastic bleach blonde look. Since her black beehive was so iconic this is surely just as dramatic as when Britney thought it would be a good idea to shave all her hair off!!

After all the troubles she has been having recently what with her husband being behind bars, it is claimed the new look is all part of a new year and a new start and a new image seemed a good way to mark it. Perhaps she’s hoping that the old adage “Blondes have more fun” has some truth to it.
