Skinny Bitch - The Must Have New Diet Book

Monday, October 1st, 2007

Skinny BitchSkinny Bitch is a “no-nonsense, tough-love guide for savvy girls who want to stop eating crap and start looking fabulous” according to the book’s front cover, and that it certainly is. The New York Times best seller, written by Rory Freedman, a former model agent and Kim Barnouin, a former model has won critical acclaim and great publicity with even the famous such as Victoria Beckham photographed reading it.

The book’s hard hitting approach can work if you have strong will power and listen to things that are indeed true even if you cannot see the light at the other side. Throughout the duration of the book’s pages you will learn about the ingredients in food and why it is bad for you, what you should cut out and what you should eat. It’s impossible not to laugh, listen and be surprised whilst reading this book.

Charlotte Church Keep Smiling

Monday, September 17th, 2007

Charlotte Church Keep SmilingAt the age of 12 Charlotte Church rose to international fame as a popular classical artist. Since the day she burst onto the scene she has remained in the media and we have followed her journey from pop princess… to bagging rugby star boyfriend Gavin… to having her own chat show and now preparing to be a mum. Wow little Charlotte has been busy over the years and now you can hear her side of the whole story with her autobiography ‘Keep Smiling’. OK so she’s only 21 years old and you might think she’s a little young to be writing an autobiography, but she has achieved so much already that there’s plenty to talk about.

If you’re a fan of Char I’m sure you’ll enjoy this book as much as I did, she doesn’t hold back at all and makes you want to read more every time you put it down. The book is currently available at Amazon.co.uk for £10 reduced from £18.99 so get in quick before they run out of copies!

The Goddess Guide

Friday, September 7th, 2007

The Goddess GuideI’ve recently come across loads of great reviews for this very attractive looking book by Gisele Scanlon. It’s basically a style bible on fashion, beauty, travel and food for all us ladies who just generally like to have fun.

“The Goddess Guide uncovers the secrets of living an unforgettable and desirable life”. Gisele has tried and tested everything featured in the book and has picked up some great advice along the way. She has also picked out the best bits from her personal diary to reveal inside information, fab glamour secrets and recommendations you just wouldn’t find anywhere else.

The life changing contents of this book includes what to have in your make up bag, how to sell clothes on ebay, finding gifts for the trickiest people and my personal favourite - the do’s and dont’s of shoes.

This book is sure to be every girls new best friend and be found for just £9 if you visit Waterstones on line.

Are You Miss Write?

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007

Are You Miss Write?I’ve always dreamed about writing a book. Imagine the life… getting up whenever you like, wearing your comfy pyjamas, escaping to a fantasy world in your mind, and then getting paid for your thoughts, sounds good to me! Well I’m pretty sure it’s not really that simple but the idea of writing a book really does appeal to me. If you’ve always fancied yourself as the next Jackie Collins then get yourself over to Cosmopolitan’s website and enter their competition (in conjunction with Waterstone’s) to produce the next bestseller.

The competition ends on 31st May so you best get your thinking cap on and dust off your laptop if you’ve any chance of winning, but it can be done. All you need to do is send a synopsis of your story and the first 3,000 words of your novel along with a mini biography of yourself. It’s chick lit they’re after so nothing too factual or dull! The winner will get themselves a publishing deal and their book will feature as Waterstone’s offer of the week! What a fab opportunity to get yourself recognised.

Anything Is Possible

Thursday, March 15th, 2007

Michelle DewberryIf you enjoyed last year’s series of The Apprentice but were left wondering how a checkout girl from Hull managed to turn her life around so dramatically, I’d recommend reading Michelle Dewberry’s autobiography. Titled ‘Anything is Possible’, it really makes you believe well.., anything is possible.

I didn’t realise just how hard Michelle’s life had been – with the loss of her sister, a violent and abusive dad, her battle with depression and bulimia – but somehow she decided she would not be a victim, rather she would believe in herself and reach her unbelievably tough personal goals. I found myself inspired by her story – if you work hard enough and believe you deserve just the same as anyone else then you can turn your life around.

Michelle believes you can be anything you want to be, never give up and you will succeed! In the back of her book are 10 tips to success – if you’re lacking motivation or want to make a career move but are too scared, give this book a read.

Welcome to my World by Coleen

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

Welcome to My World by ColeenI have to admit that I’m quite a fan of Coleen, not only is she probably the most down to earth out of all the WAG’s but she’s also the only one (apart from Posh of course) known by her first name alone. She has transformed from a shy schoolgirl in that unforgettable blue puffer jacket into a gorgeous young woman and has really made a name for herself.

OK so let’s face facts, if she wasn’t Wayne Rooney’s girlfriend, now fiancé it’s highly unlikely that she would have landed a modelling contract or been able to strut around with a new Chloe or Fendi bag every day. However, I think she deserves her success after all she hasn’t exactly had a smooth relationship with Wayne and she seems like a really nice girl.

She recently launched her new book ‘Welcome to My World’ and I am just about to buy it from Amazon for £6.75 – a bargain I think. When I have read it, I’ll let you know if it’s worth buying, if you have already read the book please let us know your opinions on Coleen.

The Final Chapter of Harry Potter Ready To Pre-order

Friday, February 2nd, 2007

Harry Potter and the Deathly HallowsHarry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in now available for pre-order on Amazon. The publisher has announced a release date of July 21st, which should excite Harry Potter fans around the world. This is the seventh and final chapter of the popular series and speculation continues as to which character will die. The announcement came quickest on J.K Rowling’s site and simply read:

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be published on Saturday 21st July 2007 at 00:01 BST in the UK and at 00:01 in the USA. It will also be released at 00:01 BST on Saturday 21st July in other English speaking countries around the world”.

There are two editions available – Standard and Deluxe. J.K Rowling is rumoured to have made $1 billion since Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone was published nine years ago – I wonder if she ever thought that would be possible when writing the first chapter in that little coffee shop?

Jamie Oliver’s Cook with Jamie 30% off at Amazon

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

Jamie Oliver’s Cook with JamieJamie Oliver’s most recent cookbook ‘Cook with Jamie’ was probably one of the most popular gifts under the Christmas tree in 2006. In my family alone we had three copies between ten of us.

The reason I love the book so much is because of its simplicity and explanations on basic food knowledge. Before picking up the book I had no idea what part of the cow different pieces of beef came from but the simple diagrams show this in a way that even young children can understand. Similar drawings of lamb, a pig, a chicken and a duck are also included to help you get a better understanding of what you’re eating.

My favourite recipe from the book is mini roast potatoes with rosemary, garlic, onions and mushrooms. I try to cook this at least once a week with a nice piece of meat and some veggies, this goes down an absolute treat with the family.

A quote from Jamie Oliver: ‘I can’t tell you how long I’ve dreamt about writing this book. It’s the biggest book I’ve ever done, and I’ve really tried to make it a timeless, modern-day classic’.

The book is currently selling at £17.16 reduced from £26.00 at Amazon.co.uk.

The Bachelorette Party

Wednesday, November 1st, 2006

The Bachelorette PartyI have just finished this book and would definitely recommend it to you all. It is absolutely hilarious at times and brings together things that we all think but wouldn’t dare say out loud. The story follows an LA school teacher called Zadie who is recovering from being dumped at the alter by her waiter turned soap actor boyfriend. Zadie is well on her way to recovery but then her best friend Grey (male) proposes to her cousin Helen who Zadie isn’t too fond of.

Zadie finds herself organising the hen night on top of coping with the stress of her own life and not to mention the fact that she has a crush on one of her students to try and forget about. However, the bachelorette party proves to be livelier than Zadie imagined with all sorts of secrets let out of the bag. This is a wickedly funny Novel by writer Karen McCullah Lutz. Available at Amazon in hardback and paperback.

7lbs in 7 days Super Juice Diet

Tuesday, September 19th, 2006

Juice Master BookI am one of those people who try every diet available and always end up at the same weight I am now. This Juice Master book is my newest fad and one that appeals to me a lot because I love fruit and vegetables especially when they are in smoothies. I bought the book last week and read it whilst in Marbella at the weekend, Jason Vale the author of the book and creator of the juices insists you read the whole book before starting the new eating plan in order to boost motivation and change your thought process for the better.

The diet allows you to drink five juices throughout the day for the first 7 days and take part in a new exercise plan. No solid foods are allowed throughout the entire first week which is why you can apparently loose 7lbs in the first 7 days. After this initial week you can introduce your normal solid foods back into your diet gradually so that you don’t put all the weight back on that you started with.

Some of the ingredients are supplements you may not have heard of such as Spirulina and Wheatgrass which you can get from your local health shop. Many of the items you will have heard of and can get from the supermarket, Jason Vale claims to be the man who helped Katie Price (Jordan) loose 2 stone in 3 months after the birth of her second son. If she can lose all that weight after just having a baby I’m certainly going to give it a go. Let me know if you have tried this diet, I’d love to hear how you got on.

Hide money, jewellery and valuables inside a Dictionary?

Monday, August 21st, 2006

Arnott's Novelties Safe BookYou’d have to have quite a few books on a shelf for this to work, but it’s a good idea. Who’d ever think of looking inside a book for valuable items? Rolled up socks, yes this would be an obvious place to hide money, on top of wardrobes, yes, under the mattress, yes, but not inside a Collins English Dictionary!

I’d be quite worried about forgetting which book I’d hidden my valuables in though – how frustrating if you had to look through each one!
