Heart shaped cookie cutters

Thursday, January 4th, 2007

Heart shaped cookie cuttersFor all of you who love baking these cookie cutters could be a great idea for you on Valentines Day. Why not treat your partner to some stylish yet romantic cookies on the special day. Even better why not buy the cutters and tell your partner you want them baked and brought up in bed with your morning coffee. Haha – if anyone can actually pull this off I would love to know.

The copper set comes with six different heart shapes so you can show off your design skills by decorating the shapes in different colour icing and patterns. The set is available for $24.95 from Sur la Table and is currently in stock.

What does 200 calories look like?

Thursday, January 4th, 2007

200 Calories of PeppersI came across a website yesterday that shows in detail the types of food you can eat for 200 calories (kcal). Each image represents 200 calories of the particular type of food ranging from the lowest calorie density such as celery and peppers to foods with much higher densities such as butter and fried bacon. I think this is a fab idea because it shows clearly what you should eat often and what you should try to eat in small moderation.

The website notes that you need to eat about 2000 (female) to 2500 calories (male) a day to maintain your weight then asks this question “you have a fixed amount of calories to “spend” each day; based on the following pictures, which would you eat?”.

After reading this I though actually I would much rather eat 328 grams of kiwi fruit than a teaspoon of peanut butter but unless you have this information in front of you all the time you tend to forget just how many calories are in that peanut butter sandwich. If I could have a chart to put in my kitchen with loads more foods I’d probably have a much healthier diet. Check out WiseGeek to see the images.

Cath Kidston range from Nokia

Wednesday, January 3rd, 2007

Cath Kidson Mobile PhoneDesigner Cath Kidson is best known for her vintage prints used widely in home décor and she was recently voted designer of the year by Gratzia. Last year she teamed up with Nokia to create some really great designs for their 6111 and 6320i ranges adding a girly touch to each one of her prints. Like her design work the floral fascias are vintage inspired and she has chosen Bird, Pop Flowers and Star prints for the phones.

Get your hands on one of these designs at the Carephone Warehouse. The limited edition phones have only been out since December so get in quick. The designs are available on 02, Virgin Mobile, Orange, Vodaphone and T Mobile on both pay as you go and pay monthly. It’s about time mobile phones were given that little extra touch to make them more personal and I’m sure this will be just the beginning of printed fascias.

Change One Thing

Change One ThingWe’re three days into the New Year and I wonder how many people are already feeling miserable about failing their New Years Resolutions? The main reason seems to be that we all try to change too much and don’t stick to realistic goals. I love the new ‘Change One Thing’ scheme that Boots are currently promoting.

I’ve had a quick look on the website and there are loads of useful tips, quizzes and advice on how to choose one thing at a time to improve your life, whether it’s quitting smoking, losing weight, feeling healthier and happier or looking great.

You can also register and make a pledge online, which gives you access to motivational emails and texts etc. So now there are no excuses not to stick to those resolutions this year!

BioKnob™ could mean no more keys

Wednesday, January 3rd, 2007

BioKnob™Many people remember to take their keys with them before slamming the door shut, and many keep them in the same place so they don’t loose them. However, some of us just aren’t that clever, I can’t tell you the number of times I have locked myself out or been late because my keys had moved themselves. I have even traipsed around the garden at 2 o’clock in the morning attempting to find the spare key. If you are somewhat forgetful like me then the BioKnob™ could be the answer to all your prayers.

The BioKnob™ produced by Tychi Systems is an advanced technology biometric door lock shaped like a standard doorknob. At the centre of the knob is a small sensor that registers thumb or fingerprints so only you and your family can enter the house. Fingerprints and passwords are stored by family members’ names and can store up to 100 users at a time.

The main downside of this invention is that it is powered by rechargeable batteries. If you charge the battery fully it will last for 1000 unlockings, however if you forget to charge it you could be in for a cold night in the car. This is assuming you have remembered you car keys otherwise it could mean a night in the garden.
