Celebrity BB Update

Friday, January 19th, 2007

Big Brother LogoCelebrity Big Brother is certainly hitting the headlines this year. Yesterday Carphone Warehouse suspended their £3 million sponsorship after allegations of racism were made against Shilpa Shetty. Jade Goody’s new perfume “Shh…” has also been withdrawn from The Perfume Shop until further notice and Danielle Lloyd has lost a modelling contract.

Personally I’m not enjoying watching this years Celebrity BB anymore – at the beginning it was amusing watching the tension in the house, but now it’s gone a bit too far with Jade and her followers acting like bitchy school girls. On a positive note however, I did find Jade’s eskimo question very entertaining, and when her boyfriend asked “What’s an emvryo”, well … what can I say apart from they’re a well matched couple.

Tonight Shilpa Shetty and Jade Goody face eviction from the house – should make some great Friday night viewing! Channel 4 have given in to pressure from MPs and the public to donate profits from tonight’s eviction to charity.

You Are What You Eat Smoothie Maker half price

Friday, January 19th, 2007

Russel Hobbs You Eat Smoothie MakerAfter watching ‘The Truth About Food’ on BBC2 last night I have been inspired to start a healthier diet by introducing more fruit and veg into my everyday routine. On the program a group of men were testing a diet of two smoothies a day to see if they could increase the quality of their sperm – all men had a low sperm count and damaged DNA.

Obviously I am not doing it for this reason because I am female but the smoothies looked so damn delicious I want to give it a go myself. After looking on the Internet for a smoothie maker this morning a came across one by Russell Hobbs called the ‘You Are What You Eat Smoothie Maker’ for only £13.24 (reduced from £26.48).

If you have been trying to encourage your kids or even your lover to eat more fruit and vegetables, smoothies could be a great solution – you are giving them a tasty treat and also giving them the nutrients and goodness their bodies need.

The Russel Hobbs smoothie maker is available at Amazon for this price.

Jamie Oliver’s Cook with Jamie 30% off at Amazon

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

Jamie Oliver’s Cook with JamieJamie Oliver’s most recent cookbook ‘Cook with Jamie’ was probably one of the most popular gifts under the Christmas tree in 2006. In my family alone we had three copies between ten of us.

The reason I love the book so much is because of its simplicity and explanations on basic food knowledge. Before picking up the book I had no idea what part of the cow different pieces of beef came from but the simple diagrams show this in a way that even young children can understand. Similar drawings of lamb, a pig, a chicken and a duck are also included to help you get a better understanding of what you’re eating.

My favourite recipe from the book is mini roast potatoes with rosemary, garlic, onions and mushrooms. I try to cook this at least once a week with a nice piece of meat and some veggies, this goes down an absolute treat with the family.

A quote from Jamie Oliver: ‘I can’t tell you how long I’ve dreamt about writing this book. It’s the biggest book I’ve ever done, and I’ve really tried to make it a timeless, modern-day classic’.

The book is currently selling at £17.16 reduced from £26.00 at Amazon.co.uk.

Nintendo Wii Sports can help you loose weight

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

I came across a blog this morning that I found rather fascinating and want to read more about the subject. The article entitled Wii Sports Experiment, Results! reveals how a young male spent six weeks of his life incorporating a thirty minute exercise regime into his daily schedule. He continued all normal activity and eating habits but just added thirty minutes of Wii Sports to his day. If you’re not familiar with the game it is a collection of sports such as boxing, golf, tennis and bowling that allow you to physically interact with the game using a sensor within the controller. Below is an example of someone playing tennis.

After six weeks of Nintendo Wii Sports he lost 9lbs just by adding a thirty minute game into his day. He also worked out how many calories each game burned and therefore which one was the most effective for loosing weight. See the blog for videos of the experiment and the whole story.

Skiing offers in Les Gets

Monday, January 15th, 2007

Ferme Du Lavay Les GetsI have just got back from the beautiful French town of Les Gets where I spent the week with 10 friends in a fully catered chalet. At £430 per person we felt we got a great deal considering this included flight, accommodation, transfers, breakfast, afternoon cake, four course evening meal, unlimited wine and transfers to and from the main chair lift every day. We had an absolutely fantastic time however unfortunately there wasn’t an awful lot of snow in Les Gets at the time so we traveled to Avoriaz on a couple of days to make the most of some skiing and boarding.

I have just looked at Total Ski’s website (who we booked with) and the price of the chalet Ferme Du Lavay is now just £285 per person if you go the week commencing Sunday 21st January. If you are looking for a last minute break away this could be perfect for you. Check out Total’s Website for more information about the chalet and others on last minute offers.

Celebrity Big Brother is back

Thursday, January 4th, 2007

Big Brother LogoAnother series, another bunch of celebrities (if you can call them that) desperate to cling on to that last ounce of fame. I was quite disappointed with the line up as I only knew two of the housemates; however last year I only knew Michael Barrymore and Jodi Marsh but still loved the series. Jo O’Meara from S Club 7 and Ian ‘H’ Watkins from Steps were pop icons as I was growing up so I recognised them straight away. As an avid A-Team watcher in his younger days, my boyfriend quickly filled me in on Dirk Benedict and I have to admit I like him already, apart from his filthy cigar habit.

The others are still a bit of a mystery to me at the moment; Danielle Lloyd and Shilpa Shetty are likely to have the men drooling however the only young lad in the house who isn’t gay is Donny Tourette – and what a great first impression he made. I watched the housemates enter the house but haven’t watched any other footage since then so am yet to make my mind up about whom I like and dislike.

As events unfold and tempers show we will be here to keep you updated and would love to hear your comments about the series as the weeks go on. If you are yet to see any of the housemates visit the channel 4 website for photographs and celebrity profiles.
