For many weeks I was extremely indecisive about whether the iPod Nano or iPod Shuffle would be best for me. I wanted an iPod so I could listen to up-tempo music at the gym so for this reason I thought a shuffle would be better; it’s cheaper than a Nano and it has a clip to easily attach it to your gym trousers. It doesn’t hold as many songs or have a digital screen but would have been perfect for a workout session.
However, just before Christmas I bought an iPod Nano for the simple reason that it was pink. I have now discovered that Apple have produced the shuffle in four new colours including pink. I am gutted. The shuffle is now also available in green, orange and blue as well as the original white case.
Available at the Apple Store for £55, this price includes a free optional engraving.
So Valentines Day is approaching fast – the day dreaded by single girls everywhere! Watching all those smug couples planning their romantic evenings out makes those without someone feel more like Bridget Jones than ever.
So for those of you planning a night in alone why not have your own fun with a virtual boyfriend? At least there’s none of the hassle of a real relationship, and you have a choice of eight men! The V-boy game is the latest Tamagotchi style craze and allows you to practice your relationship skills – the happier the virtual boyfriend is the more points you collect and the longer the relationship lasts.
It’s pretty easy to upset these virtual boyfriends though as each has their own personality. Different things will annoy different men and things about them will probably annoy you – sounds a lot like real life to me! The game does contain language of an adult nature so if you’re buying it as a gift be careful who you give it to! For £19.99 this will at least entertain you and may even remind you that the grass isn’t always greener …!
Last year Tesco sold a DVD player for £17.97, which at the time was pretty damn impressive. However, rival supermarket Asda are now selling one for £9. How is that possible? £9 is probably about the same price you’d have to pay for a cinema ticket these days! May as well spend the £9 on the DVD player and watch endless films from the comfort of your own home!
Apparently 80,000 Durabrand 1005’s will be going on sale in the UK, but you might have to rush off to your local store to get one as they’re still not showing on Asda’s website yet. The player can also handle audio CDs and CDs full of MP3s – for £9 I’m pretty sure these will be flying off the shelves.
Sony has just confirmed the date their PlayStation 3 (PS3) will be hitting the UK as March 23rd. This is a year later than originally predicted but at least the date hasn’t been moved back even further. Elsewhere in the world there have been two versions available – 20 gig and 60 gig, however the UK will just be getting the larger model.
At £425 these newbies aren’t cheap, but at least they’re not available in time for Valentines Day or you could get talked into buying one for your other half! This way you can make him splash out on it in March and then act amazed when you actually enjoy playing on it too!
It was snowing this morning in Farnborough but now the sun is out and I can smell spring in the air. A new season, a new wardrobe – I wish. However, if you are like me and cannot afford everything you want then why not bag a few spring accessories to brighten up your outfits.
I found this lovely printed bag on the River Island website earlier and I think it’s the perfect addition to a pair of jeans, plain top and a cardigan. The printed bag is brown with black, white and yellow printed material; the yellow is what really reminds me of the warmer months.
It is priced at £29.99 which is a little expensive but imagine the use you will get out of it. It’s one of the accessories you can take everywhere and it’s large enough to fit all your daily necessities.
After piling on the pounds over Christmas, I decided to get myself a decent pair of scales so I could keep on top of my weight. As I stepped on the scales yesterday morning I thought to myself ‘why do I weight 2 lbs less than I did last night?’. I had not been to the toilet or done anything apart from lay in bed. This baffled me so I decided to look it up on the Internet.
I came across a handy explanation on a website this morning that answered my question very well. It says that when your body changes food into energy, water vapour and carbon dioxide are released into the blood stream that can then leave the body through your lungs by breathing. Water is also lost through the skin then evaporates into the air. The total amount of water lost in this way is usually 2-3 lbs. For a more detailed description visit www.madsci.org.
If any of you know any other reasons or you have your own myth about why this could happen I’d love to know.
Superdrug may not be the first place you’d usually think of to look for gadgets, but they’ve recently started stocking this really cute MP3 player with speakers – and for just £19.99 – what a bargain! And it’s pink, you can’t get much better than this.
With 128MB internal memory, and a speaker set with 2 watt speakers and a 6 watt subwoofer, this little gadget is not really going to blast out a huge amount of sound, but for under £20 I think it’s definitely worth it - and it would be a great little gift for a young relative.
Earphones and a USB cable are also included, see the online store for more info.
A few days ago we wrote a post on the new iPhone - if you want to see a video of it in action click on the clip below … it totally sold it to me! I’m not usually overly impressed with gadgets but this is going to be huge. I love how much detail has gone into the design, everything has been thought through in so much depth, from visual voicemail (to save you having to listen to each in turn) to zooming into photos using your fingers - I now think the price (between $499 and $599) is pretty reasonable!
Apparently Spring 2007 is all about the printed dress. The celebs are showing off their figures in bold prints, which personally I think look great – something fresh for a new season. ASOS are already stocking loads of fab designs, such as this printed kimono style dress, and as usual the prices are pretty reasonable with this particular dress at just £38.
The colours are bright and the print is bold. Team this dress with some stilettos for an evening outfit, or wear it with skinny jeans and flat shoes for a more casual look. If you really want to feel like a celeb why not purchase this dress in the style of Nicole Richie. Again it can be dressed up or down, and is also just £38.
Winter always makes me want to hide away in bed and not face the outside, and with the forecast predicting even colder weather on its way next week I can help wishing for some hot sunshine. While browsing the internet for some holidays I came across this gift of owning your very own piece of paradise. I knew you could name a star or become a lady/lord, but I didn’t realise you could actually own a part of an island.
When you purchase the gift you will be confirmed as the beneficial owner of one square foot of land on Little Exuma (one of the islands that make up the Bahamas). Ok so what can you really do with one square foot of land, but it would make a good Valentines Day pressie if you’re all out of ideas. Plus you could tell people you have your own place in the Caribbean! The gift pack costs £29.99.
Celebrity Big Brother is certainly hitting the headlines this year. Yesterday Carphone Warehouse suspended their £3 million sponsorship after allegations of racism were made against Shilpa Shetty. Jade Goody’s new perfume “Shh…” has also been withdrawn from The Perfume Shop until further notice and Danielle Lloyd has lost a modelling contract.
Personally I’m not enjoying watching this years Celebrity BB anymore – at the beginning it was amusing watching the tension in the house, but now it’s gone a bit too far with Jade and her followers acting like bitchy school girls. On a positive note however, I did find Jade’s eskimo question very entertaining, and when her boyfriend asked “What’s an emvryo”, well … what can I say apart from they’re a well matched couple.
Tonight Shilpa Shetty and Jade Goody face eviction from the house - should make some great Friday night viewing! Channel 4 have given in to pressure from MPs and the public to donate profits from tonight’s eviction to charity.
After watching ‘The Truth About Food’ on BBC2 last night I have been inspired to start a healthier diet by introducing more fruit and veg into my everyday routine. On the program a group of men were testing a diet of two smoothies a day to see if they could increase the quality of their sperm – all men had a low sperm count and damaged DNA.
Obviously I am not doing it for this reason because I am female but the smoothies looked so damn delicious I want to give it a go myself. After looking on the Internet for a smoothie maker this morning a came across one by Russell Hobbs called the ‘You Are What You Eat Smoothie Maker’ for only £13.24 (reduced from £26.48).
If you have been trying to encourage your kids or even your lover to eat more fruit and vegetables, smoothies could be a great solution - you are giving them a tasty treat and also giving them the nutrients and goodness their bodies need.
The Russel Hobbs smoothie maker is available at Amazon for this price.
Jamie Oliver’s most recent cookbook ‘Cook with Jamie’ was probably one of the most popular gifts under the Christmas tree in 2006. In my family alone we had three copies between ten of us.
The reason I love the book so much is because of its simplicity and explanations on basic food knowledge. Before picking up the book I had no idea what part of the cow different pieces of beef came from but the simple diagrams show this in a way that even young children can understand. Similar drawings of lamb, a pig, a chicken and a duck are also included to help you get a better understanding of what you’re eating.
My favourite recipe from the book is mini roast potatoes with rosemary, garlic, onions and mushrooms. I try to cook this at least once a week with a nice piece of meat and some veggies, this goes down an absolute treat with the family.
A quote from Jamie Oliver: ‘I can’t tell you how long I’ve dreamt about writing this book. It’s the biggest book I’ve ever done, and I’ve really tried to make it a timeless, modern-day classic’.
The book is currently selling at £17.16 reduced from £26.00 at Amazon.co.uk.
Valentines Day is only a few weeks away so why not surprise that someone special by dressing up in a sexy yet classy babydoll dress. This one I have found at Anne Summers is stunning and will ensure your lover cannot resist you.
The Lady V Chemise and String Set is black silk and lace with dainty pink bows on the straps and suspenders to add a little extra to the sexy ensemble. The lingerie outfit has detachable suspenders, an underwired and padded bra attached and a short polka skirt made from see through lace. The garment is new to the Anne Summers line and is currently selling on their website for a very reasonable £25.
I came across a blog this morning that I found rather fascinating and want to read more about the subject. The article entitled Wii Sports Experiment, Results! reveals how a young male spent six weeks of his life incorporating a thirty minute exercise regime into his daily schedule. He continued all normal activity and eating habits but just added thirty minutes of Wii Sports to his day. If you’re not familiar with the game it is a collection of sports such as boxing, golf, tennis and bowling that allow you to physically interact with the game using a sensor within the controller. Below is an example of someone playing tennis.
After six weeks of Nintendo Wii Sports he lost 9lbs just by adding a thirty minute game into his day. He also worked out how many calories each game burned and therefore which one was the most effective for loosing weight. See the blog for videos of the experiment and the whole story.
