Eating healthily is too expensive!
I’ve mentioned before how much I love the Channel 4 show ‘You Are What You Eat’ presented by Gillian McKeith and that I have bursts of determination to eat healthily. Well today I had one of these bursts and decided to browse Gillian’s website for inspiration on how to put this into action. I was happy to find a 7 day Nutrition Plan and managed to pursuade two of my collegues to give the plan a try next week, starting monday morning. I was filled with new found hope that I may loose a few pounds, and feel better too. After noticing that we’d have to get up at 7.15am every morning, we were still not deterred (though the whole idea did seem a tad less appealing), but we were still enthusiastic to give it a good go.
So I started writing a shopping list for the first day, which we planned to buy on sunday afternoon. It was quite hard to do (who’s heard of spirulina or miso soup – I certainly haven’t, and I was still on day one of the nutrition plan). I then decided it may be easier to order online rather than spending hours searching the aisles at the supermarket. I logged onto Tesco’s and compiled my shopping list for the three of us for the first day. Apart from the fact that some of the foods weren’t even recognised, when I reached the end and checked my basket, I was shocked to see that one day’s food for the three of us was going to cost £51.42! That’s £359.94 for the week!
Well that’s the end of my burst, back to my normal eating routine I guess – I’m now feeling disheartened, but glad I didn’t spend hours in the supermarket aisles to finally reach the checkout and realise I couldn’t afford to eat like this for a week! Why is dieting such hard work?

Never mind expensive…Gillian’s diet takes ages to prepare. Have you ever tried leaving mung beans to soak. Leave them too long and they will turn into a tree that sinks.

[...] After discovering how expensive it is to stick to Gillian McKeith’s Nutrition Plan, I decided that exercise may be the way forward – after all it’s free. I thought running round the block a few times a day would be better than nothing and promised myself a new iPod (for motivation). While browsing the web I came across Nike + iPod – a new partnership between Nike and Apple where your iPod nano becomes your personal trainer. (Yes you heard right, your iPod nano does become your coach!). [...]
