Lost – last night's E4 episode

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006

Yes I had a fun filled evening that consisted of 2 hours of Lost last night – first the Channel 4 episode and then the First Look episode on E4. I am happy to say that after moaning previously about never finding anything out, last night’s E4 episode actually started answering some questions – not many mind but it’s definitely a start. If you don’t want to know what happened stop reading now! Claire finally started remembering what happened to her when she was snatched by the ‘Others’ – she had flashbacks of Ethan inserting vaccine into her pregnant stomach in what looked like another underground hatch. There was a whole room decorated as a nursery for Claire’s baby (Aaron) and Ethan had persuaded her to give him up once he was born (she was heavily sedated). She then had another flashback of a young girl telling her she must escape, and Claire saw the ‘Others’ preparing to cut her open and steal Aaron from her stomach. Ethan kept on about there only being enough vaccine to save the children and that he was a good guy – whether or not this is true will probably not be revealed until the next series at this rate!

After the flashbacks, Claire and Kate went into the jungle to search for the room with the vaccine (Aaron had developed a rash and Claire thought he might have become infected). Before they arrived Rousseau (the French woman) appeared from nowhere again and joined in their search – it’s all a bit strange how she keeps popping up in the middle of the jungle! The three women eventually found the hatch but it was empty. Claire had another flashback in which Rousseau helped her escape – is Rousseau good or bad? I can’t quite decide yet. Claire now thinks the young girl who told her she needed to escape is Rousseau’s daughter… So, after a two hour Lost sesh I have found out more than usual, but I’m still frustrated that now I only know bits and pieces – when’s it all going to make any sense?!

Muglets.com!

Aimi's Muglet
Wow this website is hilarious! I’m always a bit lazy with these kind of sites and don’t tend to make it to the end as I get impatient, but I was extremely impressed with this – it only took about 2 minutes from start to finish and I had created my very own Muglet! In case you were wondering, a Muglet is the body of an animated puppet with the head of a photo of your choice – all you need to do is find a photo of your face (or better still, the face of a family member or friend), upload it onto their website and choose which animated body you want to place it on – it’s as simple as that! There are loads of fun extras to add to your newly created Muglet – different items of clothing, music, dances etc – I could have spent hours playing around! You can also buy the Muglet to use as a Windows screensaver or put it on your mobile. Apparently, there are already 10 million Muglets worldwide – which according to Muglets.com means one person in every thousand already owns their very own Muglet creation!

Windows Live Messenger

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006

Windows Live MessengerMicrosoft have launched the latest version of MSN messenger – Windows Live Messenger. The name change signals the company’s collaboration with Verizon to offer cheap internet calls in a bid to rival Skype.  Its simple to use, and all you need is a PC with speakers, a microphone and a high speed internet connection.  Like Skype, calling from Windows Live Messenger is free when calling another PC but there is a small charge when phoning a telephone. The call rate varies from country to county and to call a mobile can be more than twice as much as phoning a landline but calls are cheap. The average cost of a call to a landline in any other country is about 0.15p a minute including VAT and 0.7p to call a mobile.  This is definitely a cost effective way of calling abroad but whether the quality of the service will attract as many users as Skype remains to be seen.

Apart from the introduction of a calling interface Windows Live Messenger has some interesting added functions.  It boasts new “sharing folders” which allow you to create a folder of files which contacts can download from at anytime even when you are offline.  You can now send text messages to contact’s mobile phones if they have signed up with a mobile device and you can also chat with friends who are using yahoo messenger – if you get them to sign up that is!  Personally my favourite new feature is that you can now change your status to Appear Offline and still chat to others – although you can’t send files like this – so you can hide away just like in the good old days of ICQ.  You can also have great fun customising your Messenger window with new Kiwee Muggings, or if you don’t have time to do that simply by changing its colour.    Are there any downsides to this new version of Microsoft Messenger?  Not that I can see!…oh wait…the cute butterfly logo has gone!

Jonathan Rhys Meyers – the new face of Versace

Tuesday, July 25th, 2006

Recently staring in Mission Impossible 3 alongside Tom Cruise, Jonathan Rhys Meyers will now be the star of Versace’s men’s campaign next season. He’ll be appearing alongside a group of female supermodels, including Kate Moss, Christy Turlington and Angela Lindvall, but appears to be the only male. Other Hollywood stars such as Madonna and Halle Berry have previously appeared in Versace campaigns, so it seems this new heartthrob has made it to the big time! Famous photographer Mario Testino will shoot the advertisements, which will feature in all major fashion publications. Versace’s choice is definately a good one – the new star looks masculine, yet sensual and should help raise the visibility of the menswear collection.

What Do Guys Like About You?

Tuesday, July 25th, 2006

Ever wondered what it is blokes like about you? This online quiz What Do Guys Like About You? will tell you just that! OK so it’s a bit cheesy and you know the answers aren’t the work of years of study but it’s a bit of fun! Other quizzes such as ‘Are You A Shopaholic?’ and ‘What Hairstyle Is Right For You?’ are also available so if you’ve got a few minutes to spare then why not give it a go! I did, and according to the results, guys like that I’m charming – not quite sure they’d agree with that but I’m not going to argue with it!

Smoothilicious!

Cherry, Apple and Banana Smoothie
On a hot summers day like today this smoothie is a perfect refresher – it’s filled to the brim with nutrients and antioxidants that will boost your energy levels and immune system (plus it also tastes great!) – and smoothies are so simple to make, in less than 10 minutes you can literally whip one up. Since watching the Channel 4 show ‘You Are What You Eat’ I was inspired by Gillian McKeith to rethink my diet, and although I admit to weeks of forgetting this new found inspiration, when I do decide to test out her recipes I always find myself impressed and determined to stick to this healthy living regime. It’s true that eating does affect how you feel and if you eat well, you feel well! Anyone can make a smoothie – all you need is a blender and some fruit (yes it really is that simple!). You can combine any fruit you wish, one of my favourite recipes is strawberries, bananas and plums. Other great fruits to try include blueberries, raspberries, cherries, peaches, blackberries, kiwi – the softer the fruit the better.

Stars are Blind

Tuesday, July 25th, 2006

Stars are BlindI can’t decide what I think about this. Paris Hilton has actually released a song (Stars are Blind) and I hate to admit it but it’s now stuck in my head – I can’t decide if it’s catchy or just plain annoying! If she can do it, surely anyone can? Let us know what you think!

Available at Amazon for £4.99.

DiorSkin AirFlash

DiorSkin AirFlash
I’m not the kind of person who sees an advert for make-up on TV and believes it will do what it says – in fact I tend to think it’s all lies. So I was surprised to discover that this new spray on foundation by Dior actually works! With a single spray the foundation lightly covers your skin to leave a smooth, perfectly even look (although I found it best to use two sprays). Holding the spray directly opposite your nose ensures the areas that need covering the most (those that are nearer your nose) are well covered and your cheeks get a natural dusting, which prevents any foundation lines around the edge of your face.

The secret is to lightly dab the foundation gently around the areas that are covered the most to give a natural, flawless look. Before I tried the product I was concerned that it would be heavy and thick, but it actually felt refreshing on my skin and really light. I did think the lighter colour may have been better suited to my skin tone – next time i’ll know! The foundation currently comes in four different shades: Cameo 202, Light Beige 200, Medium Beige 300 and Honey 400. At approximately £30 this DiorSkin AirFlash is definately worth the money, although i’d be interested to know how long it lasts …

Nokia N93

Nokia N93
Apparently Nokia have now started shipping the new N93 to European markets. As part of the Nseries this latest mobile has all the latest features you’d expect, but the thing that sets it apart is the camera. A 3.2 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics is impressive, but it also includes optical zoom with video stabilisation and can record video at up to 30 frames per second – which also makes it an impressive digital camcorder too. One downside to this phone is the size – it’s huge, but apart from that the N93 has few other negatives. It comes with a large display, web browser, multimedia player, email client, WiFi and Bluetooth.

Lost – I certainly am!

Monday, July 24th, 2006

The Channel 4 hit series Lost has made my Tuesdays worth living for the last few months now! Sad as it is, I love every episode, but recently I’ve started to become more and more frustrated that at the end of each episode I’m more confused than at the beginning – never reaching any kind of conclusions. Yes this is the point of the series and the name speaks for itself, but I just want to start finding out why, what, who, how etc etc.

The great thing about the series is that it’s set in a real life setting, with average people who all have a story to tell, but then every so often a huge polar bear will show up on the desert island or a cloud of black smoke will appear and you’ll suddenly realise that this whole series really could go anywhere. There could be a great ending that will make the months of viewing worth while or there could be a completely unrealistic ending which would probably result in a lot of angry viewers! And even now that I moan about not finding anything out, i’ll be there tomorrow night at 10pm hoping that something might just happen to help me understand what’s going on (unlikely).

It’s genius how the producers have created such an addictive series and there are rumours that they themselves don’t even know how it will end – I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that I won’t be dissapointed. One last point – when are Kate and Jack going to get it together?!
