Gregory and the Hawk in fact isn’t someone called gregory, or a hawk. It’s actually a singer called Meredith Godreau, who releases music under Gregory and the Hawk to avoid being lumped in with the rest of the female singer/songwriters. Her new album, Moenie and Kitchi , is out now, and definitely worth a listen.
Why? Well in a nutshell, Gregory and the Hawk make lovely, lovely music. But not in a ‘what’s a cute word that rhymes with rabbit way’, in a simple, pure way. No aims, no agenda, just an album to take you to another place where everything’s just a little bit better. Meonie and Kitchi sounds like a Fionn Regan track but with a more charming vocalist and with hints of Regina Spektor. If this album had been made before the film ‘Juno’ was released, I imagine Kimya Dawson would’ve been out the door to make way for these guys. Catchy, but not over-whelming or obvious, these songs make you want to lie back and just listen whilst your troubles ooze away.
You can get Meonie and Kitchi by Gregory and the Hawk from Amazon for £8.98, or download it from FatCat Records.

We’ve done scarves, we’ve done hats, and today I’m rounding the week off with gloves. Whilst some may say they’re the least exciting winter accessory, they’re definitely the most essential, and believe it or not there’s quite a few options – mittens, fingerless, long sleeved… So here’s my hand-picked selection.
On the left are Long Arm Warmers. They’ve got a thumbhole, but apart from that they’re fingerless, but good for keeping your arms extra warm, especially if you want to wear short sleeves. They cost £8 and are available in black, grey and cream. Next up are some old fashioned Hand Knit Mittens. They can be a bit impractical, especially when it comes to using your phone, but they’re ultra cute and will keep your hands nice and toasty. The design on these Hand Knit Mittens has a hand made feel, and they cost £10. Last but not least, if you can decide if you want mittens or gloves, never fear, because you can have both! These Striped Converter Gloves means you can have fingerless gloves, and then just pull down the top for mittens. And they’re a bargain at £8.
You can have a look at all these hand warmers over at ASOS now.

Bill Bailey is one of the UK’s best comedians, and his live shows have to be seen to be believed. With the release of his new DVD, Tinselworm, you can see what all the fuss is about. A former professional musician, Bill Bailey incorporates his musical talent into his show, composing and performing funny songs about just about anything on a variety of different instruments. It’s also a fully multimedia show – there are also video clips and special effects.
His show is definitely a contrast from traditional stand up shows, but undoubtedly still funny. If you’ve seen the show live, then you can relive your favourite moments, or if you haven’t seen it then this is a great introduction to his surreal world of comedy.
You can get Bill Bailey -Tinselworm from Amazon now for £12.98.

We’ve done hats, and now it’s time to search for the perfect winter scarf. Scarves are increasingly being seen all year round – from the tassled checkered scarves we’ve seen all summer, to the silk head scarves being sent down the catwalk for A/W08, to the versatile staple that is the pashmina.
For winter though, I think only a knitted scarf will do for maximum warmth and cuteness. This Maniyak Pure Wool Chunky Hand Spun Scarf, £20, has that great hand made look to it, because it is! The pure wool will keep you nice a warm, and the contrasting colours of blue and white means it’ll go with any outfit.
Or if you want to add a touch of this season’s check trend, try this ASOS Oversized Check Blanket Scarf. It’s available in purple of pink, and the extra width means you can wear it however you fancy. If you’re allergic to wool, this is a good choice as it’s 100% acrylic but has the look of wool.
These and a whole host of other scarves are available at ASOS now.

Good news Gavin and Stacey fans! After months of waiting, series 2 is finally available to buy on DVD this week. The second series sees our favourite couple face the trials and tribulations of married life, we find out what Nessa does about her baby, and Bryn and Jason’s slightly disturbing secret is finally revealed!
There will be a Christmas special for Gavin and Stacey, but so far there’s no news on a third series, suggesting that after Christmas there may be no more Gavin and Stacey, so even more reason to get your hands on this.
Starring award winning comedians Mathew Horne and James Corden this is one of the funniest shows to grace our screen in quite a while, and is starting to become a bit of a phenomenon, thanks to it’s slightly surreal humour and memorable catchphrases.
Gavin and Stacey Series 2 is available now from Amazon for £12.98.

James Yuill, on first appearances, is a skinny bloke with a guitar and glasses that won’t stay up. However, bend your ears in the direction of his album, or catch him live, you’ll realise there’s a bit more to him than a another geeky looking guy with a guitar. With his many boxes of tricks, James Yuill adds all sorts of weird and wonderful electronic magic, from samples to bleeps and blips to crazy Daft Punk inspired riffs to complement his insightful acoustic sound.
As ridiculous as it may sound on paper, James Yuill’s unusual combination of fusing electronica and acoustic is a success, particularly live where you can witness him pushing buttons, hitting keys and strumming away, and you can also play the rather fun game of ‘spot the sample’ as he subtly includes bits of other songs in his electronica mash up.
His debut album, Turning Down Water For Air is out now on the brilliant Moshi Moshi label, and you can get it from Amazon for £9.98.

With the clocks going back at the weekend and the temperature dropping to single figures today, it’s without a doubt time to pull out the full winter gear – hats, scarves, gloves/mittens, earmuffs, thermal underwear…
Personally my winter wardrobe starts with a good hat, and ASOS have a great selection this year. If you’re a cutting edge indie scenester then this Checked Trapper Hat (£15,right) – the hat of choice of Dev Hynes of Lightspeed Champion -will ensure that your head is the best dressed around. If it’s a bit windy there’s even the option of fastening it under your chin for maximum heat retention!
If you prefer something a bit more traditional, then how about the ultimate bobble hat? The Pom Pom Hand Knit Beanie (£10) has that slouchy, handmade look about it and the pom pom on top is supercute. It’s available in black or red.
To get my pick of the bunch, or see what else is available, head over to ASOS now.

Snow Patrol release their new album, A Hundred Million Suns, next Monday (27th). This is their fourth album, and sees the band take a more orchestral direction, but the album is still full of the catchy pop hooks and soaring chorus of their last album, the multi-million selling Eyes Open.
Performing on Later with Jools Holland last week, the band played their new single, Take Back The City, another epic pop track, and two other tracks from the new album, one of which featured a group of backing singers and a string and brass orchestra. Whether this was just a one off or these new additions to the band will be hitting the road with them on their next tour remains to be seen.
If you loved Eyes Open, no doubt this will hit the mark for you too. If, however, you’re still hoping Snow Patrol might revert to their slightly more experimental, earlier work – a track on one of their earlier albums had the rather incredible title Get Balsamic Vinegar…quick You Fool- then I’m afraid this is another disappointment. Pre-order A Hundred Million Suns from Amazon now and make up your own mind.

If you missed the amazing Dirty Sexy Money first time round, well I don’t blame you, it was on a Friday night after all. The series followed the Darling family, one of the richest families in New York, and their recently appointed legal counsel, Nick George, who replaces his father who recently died in a plane crash.
Whilst trying to find out what really happened to his father, Peter has to buy the family out of all kinds of scrapes, including Patrick Darling’s affair with a transvestite, Karen Darling’s fifth marriage and subsequent divorce, and Jeremy and Juliet Darling’s constant over-spending and arguments.
The series stars some heavyweights in the world of acting. Peter Krause from Six Feet Under plays Peter, Donald Sutherland plays Tripp Darling, the head of the family, and Samaire Armstrong , Anna from The OC, plays Juliet Darling.
This is definitely one of the best American shows to come our way recently, and you can pre-order the entire first season, which is released on Monday, from Amazon for only £17.99.
